Nokia talks about the new PureView technology

Posted on 02:04 by Unknown

Nokia has recently unveiled its latest flagship Windows Phone 8 smartphone – the Lumia 920, and one of the main features is the new PureView camera technology used in it. At the event, Nokia shed some light about this technology and what improvements it has over the first PureView smartphone, the Nokia 808.

Nokia claims that using advanced floating lens technology, the camera in the Nokia Lumia 920 is able to take in five times more light than competing smartphones without using flash, making it possible to capture clear, bright pictures and video indoors and at night. It also compensates for hand movement while the photo is being taken.

Commneting on this technology, Jo Harlow, Executive Vice President of Nokia Smart Devices said,“Nokia PureView continues to deliver cutting-edge technology to make it possible for a smartphone camera to take the kind of images usually only seen on a standalone SLR camera. With the Nokia Lumia 920 we have made it possible to shoot pictures and video at home, outdoors, in a restaurant or even at night, and come out with professional-looking results.”

“We view imaging as a core area for differentiation in the smartphone space,” said Crawford Del Prete, Executive VP WW Products and Chief Research Officer, IDC. “Low light photography has been a weak point for smartphones. Nokia has addressed this with PureView to create real customer value. By applying its rich expertise in imaging Nokia has created a best of breed experience for everyday use.”

If you’re still in the dark about the latest flagship from Nokia, then here is a quick brief on what it is all about,. Nokia took the wraps off its Lumia 920 at the Nokia World 2012 event in NYC. The Nokia Lumia 920 will pack in a Snapdragon S4 and a PureView sensor. It also comes with the Blink app, which is the smartphone's Burst mode. The smartphone will feature an LCD display that is little higher than the HD displays available now. WIth a polycarbonate body, the phone will be available in many colours – yellow and red being two of them.

The Nokia Lumia 920 comes with Nokia Drive, which offers free turn-by-turn voice navigation out of the box. It also includes indoor maps of train stations and bus terminals. What is also included is City Lens that provides an "intuitive" way to explore a city. Nokia Maps has augmented reality. Once you have set a route on Nokia Maps, you can look at the street through the phone and get directions.

The Lumia 920 packs in a new PureMotion HD+ screen with a fast refresh rate. It comes with ClearBlack screen that automatically adjusts colour tone and brightness of the screen. The phone comes with a 2000 mAh battery – the biggest one that Nokia has ever made. The Lumia 920 will come with 7GB free SkyDrive storage.
