Google Maps Now Offers Live Traffic Updates In India

After Transit Routes, Google Maps Now Offer Live Traffic Updates In IndiaAfter coming up with the transit route options feature for a few cities in India, Google has added voice-guided turn-by-turn navigation and live traffic updates for Google Maps on Android smartphones. While this feature has been available on the app for a long time now, the voice-enabled functionality will apparently work only on GPS-enabled devices, and not on those running Assisted GPS.

Traffic-related information can also be viewed on the site's desktop version. The info is supposedly updated in real time, with indictors telling you how free-flowing or slow-moving the traffic is in an area. To view the details, you'll have to enable the Traffic Layer from the drop-down at the top left of your maps screen.
As of now, the updates have been enabled for Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Pune. It's been pouring cats and dogs in Mumbai for the past few days, so these functions couldn't have come at a better time! (But you'll still need to pray that your Android doesn’t run out of juice at the wrong time!)
